- UsedVancouver.com is founded by Mark Rainer and Stephen Chan
- Mark and Stephen hope to address the landfill and greenhouse gas emission problems in Vancouver, BC, by recycling unwanted goods out of the garbage system
- Paid advertising from commercial advertisers completes the business model
2004
- Mark Rainer partners with Don Barthel and together they relaunch UsedVancouver.com
- Excited to bring the service to all of Canada, they register 50 other similar domain names
2005
- UsedOttawa.com, UsedWinnipeg.com and UsedVictoria.com are launched and quickly surpass UsedVancouver.com’s active postings
- The collection of sites is called UsedCanada.com
2006
- UsedCanada.com positions itself as “Canada’s answer to eBay”
- Ottawa-based TradeBug.com is acquired with its trade name and audience and merges into UsedOttawa.com
- More sites are launched including UsedCalgary.com, UsedEdmonton.com, UsedRegina.com and UsedPEI.com
2007
- UsedCanada.com’s network of local free classified websites grows 400% from the previous year, now receiving over a million pageviews per day and serving communities and advertisers across Canada
- Black Press of Victoria, BC, the largest privately owned publisher of community newspapers in North America, acquires UsedCanada.com from Don Barthel
2008
- UsedCanada.com becomes UsedEverywhere.com with a network of 73 free classified websites
- Traffic grows to 1.6 million unique visitors and over 55 million pageviews per month
- Always at the forefront, UsedVictoria.com and UsedOttawa.com begin tweeting
2009
- The UsedBlog is launched. The first post shows how the Moderation Team keeps our sites safe and family-friendly
- We go social and spread the word on Facebook and Twitter
2010
- Our city sites get a new look, making it easier to search for items by categories and subcategories
- United Kingdom sites launched
2011
- The UsedNews newsletter is founded to help share pro tips and useful articles
- More social media platforms are established to truly connect with local communities
2012
- Users can now search by location
- The UsedBlog really takes off as amazing guest bloggers are added to the writing roster
2013
- Re-branding: new logo and tagline “Locals buy & sell here” introduced
- All city sites get a new look, including the corporate site
- Hashtags are introduced to facilitate search on the sites
2014
- Mobile site launched
- Trending ads are introduced so users can see what ads are popular on the front page of each city site
- The new Favourites Button makes comparisons and saving searches much easier
- #UsedHelps launched allowing users to donate to charities nationwide
2015
- New pet policy ending breeder and for profit sales of household pets
- Resume uploading feature added for job hunters responding to job ads
- UsedEverywhere.com becomes Used.ca and 84 local city sites are rebranded with one logo.
