It’s that time of year again. One last slice of your Terry’s chocolate orange gulped down with a promise to start working out. In the early new year, our sites are flooded with people selling gently used fitness equipment in order to make space for new purchases and people looking to buy.

When you are searching for used workout equipment, there are some tricks and best practices to getting the job done right. Here is the best way to find what you’re looking for on our sites.

First, choose your local Used.ca site.

Categories

Heading straight to the relevant category is a great way to search even when you don’t know exactly which piece of fitness equipment you are looking for.

From the homepage of your local Used.ca site, go to the category Sporting Goods. Within that category, there is a sub-category called Fitness. This is where you will be able to scroll through all the used workout, gym and fitness equipment listed for sale in your community.

Search

Using the search function is best when you know exactly what you are looking for and don’t want to browse through ads for other items.

Using the search bar to the right of your screen, type in the name of the item that you are looking for. You can search from the hompage or you can go to the relevant category and search within that category only.

For example, looking for a treadmill? Type “treadmill” into the search bar on the homepage or select the category Sporting Goods and search within it for “treadmill.” By using the search function you can also filter your results by price and location as in the image below.

Search Terms

Remember one man’s “treadmill” might be another man’s “running machine,” so when using our search function, try several different search terms to get the best results.

Alerts

Once in a category, you can ask our system to email you when new items are listed. On the right hand side of your screen, you will see “Tools” and within this toolbox is the option “Email Alerts.” See our image below.

Maps

If distance is an issue and you don’t want to purchase equipment from someone who lives too far from you, remember that you can use our map function to view ads based on location. Select the relevant category and then in the toolbox, as above, select “View Ads on Map” this will show all items listed on a map of your area similar to the one shown below. Then simply click one of the pins to see what the items listed is. For best results when searching used gym equipment for sale, go to the relevant category before looking at the map. This will narrow down results.
