DIY glittery candle votives for Valentine’s Day
You know those glass candle votives just sitting there, looking all plain and boring? They’re begging for a little glitter. So get into your glitter-hazmat suit and let’s glam up those glass votives for Valentine’s Day!
There are three different styles that range from “super easy” to “some thought required”. Pick one (or all three) that match your crafting aptitude.
- Glass votive and candle
- Glitter
- White glue
- Sponge brush or makeup sponge
This one falls under the super easy category. Bonus: it’s the least messy of them all.
Simply put some glue into the bottom of your candle holder. With your sponge, dab the glue onto the bottom and sides of the votive. Be sure to dab and not rub to avoid streak lines.
Place a tablespoon of glitter into the votive and twirl it around until the glue is entirely covered.
Let it sit for at least two hours to allow the glue to set.
- Glass votive and candle
- Glitter – three different shades of the same colour
- Double sided tape
- Q-Tip
- Paper plate
The ombre striped votive requires a bit more mess and fuss, but it’s still simple enough to do with kids, or the non-crafter hoping to impress.
- Place a strip of double sided tape all the way around your votive. Make sure it is level and the ends meet
- Dump about a tablespoon worth of your darker glitter onto the paper plate. Roll the tape on the votive in the glitter until completely covered
- Use a Q-Tip to wipe away any extra glitter off the votive
- Remove glitter from plate and repeat with your next colour. Do the same for the last strip.
- Glass votive and candle
- Glitter
- Painter’s Tape
- Heart shaped paper punch
- Paper plate
- White glue
- Sponge brush or makeup sponge
The heart votive isn’t much harder, but it does require you get a heart shaped paper punch. If you have surgeon-steady hands that can perfectly cut out a heart, that will work too.
- Punch a heart out of the Painter’s Tape and place it on the votive. Make sure to press down firmly on all sides to ensure it sticks
- Use your sponge to dab glue all along the outside of your votive
- Over a paper plate, sprinkle glitter onto the glue, ensuring every spot is covered
- Before the glue dries, gently remove the Painter’s Tape heart
- Allow glue to dry for two hours before use
