Vancouver Island Summer Bucket List 2017
Each year, my family makes a summer bucket list that includes everything from wild dreams like building a treehouse to the simple summer fun of going out for ice cream. We sat down last night to start making our list and here’s what we have so far:
- Getting ice cream at Beacon Drive-In
- Visiting outdoor markets like the Esquimalt Farmers Market (where you can sit on the grass and enjoy fresh fruit, baked goods, and even artisan chocolates!)
- Going bowling
- Trying stand-up paddle boarding
- Attending the mysterious Diner en Blanc (July 7)
- Sitting on a beach at least once a week
- Seeing the sand castles at Parksville’s Quality Foods Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition (July 14 to August 20)
- Hiking up Mt. Doug and Mt. Finlayson
- Training for the GoodLife Fitness Marathon
- Playing frisbee at the park
- Making popsicles
- Following the parade all the way to the Victoria Pride Festival (July 9)
- Splashing around at the new Esquimalt Adventure Park
- Checking out all the exciting performers at the Downtown Victoria Buskers Festival (July 11 to 16)
- Crabbing in Sidney
- Trying a new sport – like rock climbing or horseback riding
- Watching the HarbourCats vs. Burnaby Bulldogs baseball game presented by Used.ca (July 16)
- Going camping (and making s’mores!)
- Enjoying arts, crafts and music at the Filberg Festival in Comox (August 4 to 7)
- Trying out new summer recipes
- Going swimming
- Petting all the dogs at Pet-A-Palooza (August 12 and 13)
- Going to the fair at the Vancouver Island Exhibition in Nanaimo (August 18 to 20)
- Working on summer arts and crafts
- Hosting a backyard barbecue
- Checking out antique cars at the Vancouver Island Motor Gathering (August 27)
- Visiting Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse
- Building a treehouse (maybe this will be the summer our wildest dreams come true!)
