Superhero cape DIY: no superhero crafting skills necessary

Easiest superhero cape DIY ever!

Last weekend I attended a three year old’s superhero party. We were told by my dear friend that we needn’t bring costumes, she was going to make them. For all the kids. Wow.

On arrival, a line up of superhero capes greeted us. With matching masks. The littles were blown away and so was I. There was the potential that even I, bottom of the class in all dressmaking studies, could do this. And my blog friends, so could you.

Superhero cape tutorial directions:

  • Grab an oversize t-shirt, use one you already have, buy used or grab some cheapies at your local store
  • Cut with dressmaking scissors
  • Iron on a motif
  • Wear

To cut:

Using an old UsedVictoria.com t shirt, I have indicated with chalk where you need to cut around the neck line. You take off the full front of the tee, leaving only an inch or so around the collar. Where I have indicated with chalk on the angel wings, cut sleeves and sides, leaving only a cape like piece of the back of the t shirt.

Iron on motifs can be bought at your local craft stores or use old material and stitch on a motif of your choice.
